Weddings held in a different place than where you live are called destination weddings. These offer many benefits, but some negative aspects, depending on who you are, where you want to go and how many people you want. Having a wedding in the Caribbean can be an exciting opportunity that will only happen once in your life, but you should make sure it’s truly what you want.

Pros

One of the biggest advantages to destination weddings is that you will usually get a complete package. This includes tourist attractions, resorts, consultants and other essentials, such as cake, Officiant and marriage license. You may also be able to get shopping, sightseeing, excursions and gift certificates to give to the guests.

Another advantage is that you can likely reduce your stress, as most of the planning will be done by the consultant you hire. They will make sure your cruise or transportation is handled, as well as reservations for travel and accommodations, meaning you have more time to relax and focus on the aspects you want to control, such as the dress and what to pack.

Another great reason to consider a wedding in the Caribbean is that you can combine your honeymoon and nuptials in the same place. Once the big event is over, you and your husband can stay longer in the same area and have that romantic honeymoon you’ve always dreamt of.

Cons

Sometimes, destination weddings can have a lot of red tapes associated with them, legally. In the case where you get married in a different state or country in which you live, it can be more difficult to get a license. You may need to hire a coordinator that understands these problems and make sure you can receive a license in that area.

Another problem could be that your close friends and family may not be able to attend. Most people can handle one or two days away from work and regular life, but this may be an entire week event, making it more difficult for people to go, especially if they have to handle their travel and accommodation cost.

Even though you’ll be in the perfect place to consider a honeymoon, it may be slightly difficult to get alone-time with your family. If your family and friends choose to book their stay so they can stay longer and make a vacation out of it, you may not get as much romance as you want.
