While many trucking companies will have a terminal or set shipment point that allows for truck weigh scales to be permanently installed, there may also be the need for a portable truck scale.

In Dallas, TX and throughout the state, these scales are used by small and large industries, in agriculture and even in logging, mining and oil and gas operations. With their ability to be used just about anywhere, they are the ideal choice for ensuring all trucks are legal on the road, and the company isn’t going to face fines going through weigh stations and checkpoints.

Use On Level Surfaces

While a portable truck scale doesn’t have to be set up on a perfectly level surface, it is beneficial to use the scales on as flat of a surface as possible. These are designed to be very compact to support the tires, so it is typically easy to find a level surface area for use.

Use a firm surface under the scale as well. This means gravel, concrete or a packed surface. Here in Texas, many jobs may be out on packed clay, that will also provide a firm surface when it is dry.

Use the Ramps

It just takes a second to snap the ramps in place on either side of the scale. Even though it is a low profile scale, there is more shock to the load cell if the weight is suddenly applied to the weighing platform. Using the ramp limits the sudden to the load cell as the truck is positioned in place.

Clean as Needed

A top portable truck scale will be waterproof, which is an important considering when used in outdoor areas. If using the scale in a Dallas, TX wet spring, fall or winter, be sure to rinse off all dirt and debris and allow the scale platform to dry before packing it away for storage between uses.
