If you’ve purchased a hand dryer for use in your company’s restroom, then congratulations are in order. You’ve taken the first step toward going greener, reducing paper and plastic waste, and ensuring more sanitary restroom conditions. However, before you can enjoy those benefits, you’ll need to install the dryer. A few tips will help make hand dryer installation simpler and easier.

Watch the Entry and Exit

One of the most crucial tips for hand dryer installation is to watch the entry and exit to the restroom. By ADA standards, you cannot block this path. If you must install your dryer in the entryway, you’ll need to use an ADA compliant model that only juts out a maximum of four inches from the wall.

Don’t Block the Sink(s)

It’s natural to want to install your hand dryer near a sink, but don’t put it too close. If you do, you’ll ultimately block access and slow down the flow of traffic. What was meant to help save time then becomes a stumbling block? Ideally, you’ll place your hand dryer convenient to the sink(s), but not so close that using the dryer blocks access to the sink (or vice versa).

Know Your Power Layout

Hand dryers need to be connected to the power grid to operate. This means that you need to install the dryer where there’s easy access to existing wiring. While you can always run new wiring, note that this increases your installation costs and time, and can ruin the aesthetics of the bathroom, particularly if the installer must cut through tile wall cladding to connect to the wiring.

Too Many Hand Dryers

While you want enough hand dryers mounted to handle the flow of traffic in your bathroom, avoid having too many dyers installed on the same wall, too close together. Each dryer needs to be a specific distance from the next for ease of use, but also for other considerations, such as electrical safety, heat dissipation and more. Know the ideal distance between each hand dryer you purchase and mount them appropriately.

As you can see, there’s more to hand dryer installation than you might think, but it begins with buying the right dryer in the first place. We invite you to contact American Dryer today to learn more about our hand dryers, as well information about installation.
