There are many advantages to most types of metals and alloys in a wide range of different applications. Understanding why one product is superior to another in a particular type of application or environment is essential in ensuring that you are using the right metal alloy for the job. 321 stainless steel sheet is a good example of a highly practical option in high heats as well as corrosive types of environments.

You will find 321 stainless steel sheet stock as well as other forms in everything from jet aircraft parts and components through to oil refinery equipment and petrochemical processing plants. 321 stainless steel sheet is also the choice for many of the heavy duty types of automobile and heavy equipment exhaust systems, boiler casings, radiant superheaters, welded pressure vessels as well as firewalls.

Specific compounds found in 321 stainless steel sheet and other forms give this stainless steel its versatility in the wide range of applications it is ideally suited for. For example, with more titanium than other stainless steels is it more resistant to carbide precipitation even during the extreme heat of welding. That same higher titanium percentage also ensures that 321 stainless steel sheet is a good choice for use in constant elevated temperature use such as in radiant superheaters, boiler casings, exhausts and jet engine components.

Other components in 321 stainless steel sheet include carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, nickel, nitrogen and iron to balance. This combination makes it an excellent choice for organic acids and some inorganic acids when it comes to corrosion resistance.

321 stainless steel sheet can be welded as any other type of austenitic stainless steel. It is a good option for both resistance welding techniques as well as fusion welding. It is considered to be equal to 304 stainless steel with regards to welding but it is more likely to harden and is therefore more difficult to form than 304 stainless.

321 stainless steel sheet is available in a range of thicknesses from 0.10 inch to up to 0.187 inches thick, allowing you to choose just the right sheet for your project. With coil, plate and bar forms also available 321 stainless steel is one of the most versatile metals used in many industries.
