If you are like most pet owners, you worry about what will happen while you’re at work or if you need to go out of town. While most pets would prefer to stay at home during the day while you’re working, that may not be feasible because they need extra attention or have to go outside regularly to use the restroom and to exercise. Many times, you aren’t allowed to take your pet with you while traveling or find it’s too difficult to do so. Therefore, the dog boarding in New York could be an option, but it comes with advantages and disadvantages that have to be weighed before making a decision that will affect your pet and the family.

Advantages

Sometimes, traveling with your pet isn’t possible, because they get too stressed out from the plane or car ride. If you’re only going 50 miles or so, it may not be a big deal, but three hours in a car or plane could be unbearable for a pet.

In some cases, hotels aren’t pet-friendly, so you could be fined if you bring them or may not be allowed in at all. This can be stressful for you, which can bring stress to the pet. Instead, they’ll be welcome at a kennel and be around staff that are trained to deal with them and their needs.

If you have a pet with special needs or particular health problems, it may be necessary for them to stay in a kennel, because the staff will be able to give them their medications on time and help.

Potential Disadvantages

Sometimes, however, pets get more stressed out when they are in an unfamiliar environment, so dog boarding may not be the most appropriate option for your family. Another rare, though possible problem, is that, being in close proximity to other pets, they may be exposed to certain diseases. It is necessary that your pet be vaccinated against kennel cough and other life-threatening diseases before going to a kennel.

If your pet gets easily stressed out from being in the car, even a short drive to a kennel could be detrimental. While the staff on hand will be able to help calm them, it may be better to ask a friend to stay at your home until you get back. Your neighbor may also be willing to drop in a few times a day to feed and walk your pet.
