A Polybush Kit May Be the Cure For Steering Problems, ‘Clunking” Noise

Your car’s suspension and steering joints absorb bumps on the road. These items in turn are embedded in a surrounding support cushion which vastly reduce the amount of movement in joints to prevent them from wearing out and/or making noises.

These protective cushions are called bushings.

Bushings are most often made from rubber or polyurethane. When you take your car to a mechanic when you suspect you are having suspension problems, he might tell you that you need a polybush kit. Polybush is a common term used for bushings made with polyurethane.

For the motorist who knows little about the inner workings of their vehicle, the terms mechanics throw around may be confusing. He may say something like, “Your front-end bushings are shot,” or, “I need to replace your suspension bushings.” Essentially, that’s the same thing as when he might suggest you need a “polybush kit.”

Doing so will eliminate problems you have noticed while driving. For example, a vehicle with warn bushings may shimmy in the front, or you may hear an irritating rattling or clunking sound. That’s likely the sign of a warn bushing. It is allowing a joint too much movement. This will eventually lead to a much greater failure of the suspension system if you don’t get the bushings replaced.

Another problem eliminated by repairing the front-end bushings is better steering and less unnatural sway in your car’s movement. That’s because bushings secure control arms and stabilizer bars. Engine and transmission mounts are also protected by bushings.

Although much depends on the make of your car and other factors, a polybush kit is considered by many mechanics to be a superior product. Polyurethane is an excellent substance for handing high levels of pressure, heat and the constant movement that causes surrounding parts to wear down.
