People who aren’t familiar with jail and the courts’ processes might not fully understand how a bail bond in Oklahoma City works. What’s not understood by many is how small situations can escalate into more serious problems that might require bail to get out of jail. Understanding how a small matter can turn into a more serious one can help people avoid trouble.

Traffic Court

For the most part, traffic court is fairly simple. Drivers who are issued a traffic violation are not placed under arrest for the offense. If a driver is arrested, it will usually be for something else, such as drugs or weapons found during the traffic stop. In order to rectify a traffic violation, the fine must be paid to the court.

Fines That Go Unpaid

A person might need a bail bond in Oklahoma City if they choose to ignore the ticket or forget about it. If an appearance in court was mandatory for the ticket or the fine goes unpaid, a bench warrant will typically be issued. Although it is rare, sometimes these warrants are actually executed by going to the residence of the accused. Most of the time people with bench warrants are picked up during traffic stops.

Getting Out Jail

Once a traffic ticket leads to a bench warrant, a defendant will likely have to pay to get out of court. Courts will usually allow a defendant to pay the ticket and any other costs tied to it. Another problem that a defendant might face is that if they were picked up in a traffic stop their car will be impounded. A car that is left in impound too long can be expensive to get out.

Taking Tickets Seriously

People need to take traffic tickets seriously or they might end up needing to call a bail company for 24-hour emergency service. A defendant that has multiple instances of failed court appearances can find themselves in serious trouble. It can be hard for a defendant to get out of custody if a judge thinks the person will just ignore court dates.

Anyone who is issued a ticket needs to address the matter or they could find themselves behind bars and in need of help.
